Wo Long’s technical issues are driving players up the wall, but its controls could be a bigger problem-

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty came out today, but it could probably have used a little extra time in the oven. Players across the internet are complaining about all sorts of technical problems with the game’s PC version: dropped frames, stuttering, issues with shaders, and other  performance issues that have become disturbingly common in PC ports over the past couple of years. But that might not even be the worst of it, players using a keyboard and mouse to play the game are reporting some truly baffling design choices with Wo Long’s controls.

You don’t have to go far to find players complaining about technical problems. Only 31% of Wo Long’s 2,331 Steam user reviews are positive at time of writing, and many of the negative ones mention the game’s performance. One review from a use…

What year is it- Because the O.G. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is finally getting the arcade brawler tie-in it deserved in the ’90s-

It would have made sense, right? A side scrolling Power Rangers arcade brawler in the style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time or Streets of Rage, but it never happened in the golden age of the genre. Following the arcade brawler’s new lease on life in recent years, Digital Eclipse is here to finally make it happen in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, with a reveal trailer having come out of today’s Summer Game Fest showcase.

And the new Power Rangers game looks quite good indeed, reminiscent of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge as a real labor of love to do the genre and subject matter justice. The make or break for a game like this is definitely how it feels in the hand, but I can already tell Rita’s Rewind nails the look and sou…

True to FromSoftware’s creative vision, Armored Core 6 now has a mech that’s CJ riding Thomas the Tank Engine-

It took modders less than a day to add CJ from San Andreas to Armored Core 6, and the meme train just keeps rolling down the tracks: I present to you CJ and Thomas the Tank Engine. Together at last. Wait… Yes it is a rather unfortunate confluence of body positions and overall deeply, deeply cursed, but I think we’ll leave it there.

The obvious next step is for Thomas’ chassis to have a Shrek plushie hanging somewhere. The Thomas the Tank Engine mod replaces the EL-TL-11 FORTALEZA legs with the beloved childrens’ train, and is the creation of ScrubMilk, whose previous greatest hits include making Elden Ring’s Torrent into a Minecraft horse. Which is a neat segue into the fact that, drunk with power, modders have also started putting Armored Cores into…

Watch a latex-clad billionaire punch out poor people in the debut gameplay trailer for Batman- Arkham Shadow-

Watch On

The first-ever gameplay trailer for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Shadow appeared at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase tonight, giving us our first proper look at the upcoming VR take on the adventures of the most therapy-averse billionaire in history.

The new trailer focuses on exploration, dialogue, and of course plenty of fisticuffs, as the world’s greatest detective whomps the living hell out of dozens of flunkies and underlings on his way to ensuring that nothing ever really gets better in the bleak, crumbling metropolis of Gotham City.

“A corrupt system has failed you,” the villainous Rat King (at least, I assume that’s the Rat King) says at one point. “Are you not angry? Fight back!” The man has a point, right? If your life is an endless swamp of fut…

Wordle today- Hint and answer #908 for Thursday, December 14-

Welcome to your latest Wordle win. Now you’re here, today’s answer is only a cheeky click away, ready to send your win streak score a little higher. If you prefer your help to be a little less definitive, feel free to spend some time mulling over the December 14 (908) hint, or take a look at our general tips and tricks.

I probably shouldn’t shout out Wordle answers as soon as they come to mind so early in the day, but I just couldn’t help myself. WD and Kioxia merger on the cards to overtake Samsung as the world’s main source of SSD storage-

Two of the largest NAND flash manufacturers are eyeing up a mega merger, reports suggest. Kioxia, once part of Toshiba, is said to be nearing a deal with Western Digital that would see the two companies combine to become a new SSD storage entity to rival market share leader Samsung.

According to Kyodo News, the companies are expected to agree to the merger by the end of the month.

US-based Western Digital’s shareholders are expected to own 50.1% of the new company when the deal goes through. Kioxia will make up the rest. Toshiba and SK Hynix will have a say in how the new company will be set up, however, as Toshiba still owns a huge stake in Kioxia since the company was spun out of its own memory arm and SK Hynix is an indirect investor, Nikkei reports.

Vampire Survivors’ latest DLC is a perfect $2 jolt of the game I fell in love with last year-

Vampire Survivors has gotten its second round of DLC, Tides of the Foscari, and like the first, Legacy of the Moonspell, there’s a lot to love here: more characters, maps, items, and secrets for 2022’s best roguelike, all for just two bucks. While the starting map, Lake Foscari, didn’t immediately light my fire, the continuation of Vampire Survivor’s signature secrets and unlocks really won me over.

I missed Moonspell on the first go-around, so I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect when I broke my long absence from Vampire Survivors and loaded into Foscari. If I have one complaint about the whole package, it’s that this primary new map just needed some more visual flair. It’s got a great layout with more distinct landmarks (including a cheeky hedge maze) than many of the base game’…

Valve’s new top-played chart for the Steam Deck shows that people really, really like both Hades and Hades 2-

Valve’s Steam charts now have a new live category exclusively for the Steam Deck, letting you view the “Top Played” games for the Deck in the past week, month, and year. The list, which tracks changes in rank compared to the previous time period, also shows prices and whether the game in question is verified for Steam Deck. It’s a great way to see what other people are playing—and pretty dang good at highlighting deals, since the prices show current sale prices for the 2024 Steam summer sale.

There are more than a few interesting insights to be gleaned. PC Gamer staff were quick to note that both Hades and Hades 2 are holding onto spots in the top 10 for both the past week and past month categories, with Hades 2 beating out a lot of newer and fancier games. The dual placemen…

Unity makes big changes to the install fee that pissed off just about every game developer last week-

Last week, just about everyone in the games business was mad at Unity over a new, retroactive per-install fee for games made with the engine. Unity developers raised troubling question after troubling question about the proposal: How would installs be counted? What if someone reinstalls a game over and over? What about cases where a developer could end up paying Unity more than they made from selling their game? After over a week of turmoil, Unity has announced that it’s walking back the most objectionable aspects of the fee.

In an “open letter” published today, Unity executive Marc Whitten apologized for the company’s errors and outlined the revised plan. Here’s the big stuff:

  • The new install fee (called a “Runtime Fee”) will not apply to games made with the U…

Nvidia owners can get a big FPS boost in Starfield with this manual ReBAR tweak-

Starfield is arguably this year’s most hyped game. At this point in time, the game runs well on AMD hardware thanks to its partnership with Bethesda, but Nvidia owners haven’t gotten as much love. Though the game runs well enough, Nvidia GPUs are uncharacteristically underperforming in Starfield, and official support for Nvidia’s bedrock technologies such as DLSS are missing.

Over time things will improve, as Nvidia and Bethesda release driver updates and patches. If you don’t want to wait, there’s an interim tweak you can do yourself, and if the early testing is to be believed, it can deliver major performance boosts for Nvidia owners playing Starfield.

Okhayko at Nexus Mods (via Reddit) has posted a very handy guide that gives Nvidia owners a welcome FPS boost. The secret …

Valve draws a stark line in the sand with Counter-Strike 2, says bye-bye to Mac players and 32-bit systems-

Counter-Strike 2 seems to have got off to a solid start, but a few weeks after launch Valve has announced some big decisions. These will only affect a small number of players, but even so this is a real line in the sand that reflects the developer’s ambition to develop this game for a decade or more.

“Counter-Strike 2 represents the largest technical leap in CS history,” says a Valve statement, “and our goal is to continue to develop Counter-Strike for years to come. As technology advances, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue support for older hardware, including DirectX 9 and 32-bit operating systems. Similarly, we will no longer support macOS.”

Sorry Apple fans: you’re out. This may seem a rather hard-headed decision but, as Valve goes on to explain, …

What a surprise—the Diablo 4 beta test servers are being crushed and people can’t get in-

The Diablo 4 preorder beta is now underway, and as you might have expected, it’s not going perfectly smoothly. The biggest and most obvious issue for people trying to get into the beta is lengthy queue times: I’m currently staring at an “87 minutes left” message as I try to get in on the action.

Some of us at PC Gamer are looking at even longer wait times:

An hour into the beta, Blizzard has reported “an issue affecting our authentication servers,” which it said could result in slow or failed login attempts. That might sound familiar: The dreaded Error 37 that plagued the launch of Diablo 3 back in 2012, was also an authentication server problem. It’s the one thing about Diablo that genuinely scares us.

Two great GPUs, two great pre-Prime Day graphics card deals, one tough choice-

Just $10 separates these two great graphics cards, so which one is worth splashing out $500 on? Well, the good news is that no matter which one you go with, you’re getting the latest generation of GPU from AMD and Nvidia, both packed with all the features you expect in a modern graphics card.

The cheaper of the two is Gigabyte’s take on Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4070. It has higher clocks than the reference design (2,565 vs 2,475 MHz) but a 4% overclock is barely going to be noticeable in games. It sports a pretty large heatsink and cooler, so you’ll need to make sure you’ve got plenty of room inside your PC case for it.

Rather than using the 12VHPWR power connector that many RTX 40-series cards sport, Gigabyte has fitted a standard 8-pin PCIe connector, which means you won’t nee…
